Telo’s part 5

August 5, 2010, 10:32am

Here I am with the last part of our trip to the Telo Islands. Right now I’m on the train from Amsterdam to Ostend (Belgium) so I’m almost home..
The last couple of days I didnt updated the blog cause I had some seriouse problems with the internet concection over there.
The last couple of days were just as all the other days, really good. On the second last day we surfed a left that some of us surfed a couple of days before when it was bigger. Now it was much smaller but every now and than there were still headhigh waves coming in with perfect barrels! The first time we surfed that waves Oli got stucked in a cave after a wipeout, this time it was Melvin who got stucked in one aswell!! He took of on a really good looking wave but he just didn’t came out of the barrel, he got smashed and ended up in a cave…So scary but luckely he got out of it with just some reefcuts, Yannick broke his board in the same session.
After that we went back to probably the best right on the Telo’s were we surfed the first and second day, there was a big swell on the way so we were hoping it would hit just on time before we needed to fly back home. That same day the swell started to come in but the tide was really low so it wasn’t epic, but there were definitely some perfect waves coming in. The next day we had to leave at 8AM so we still had like 2hours we could surf. We arrived pretty much in the dark but there was just enough light to paddel out and the swell definitely got bigger than the day before. Still not big, but there were some really good sets coming true! We all got some perfect barrels to finish the trip and just when we needed to go out of the water to go to the airport the onshore kicked in (luckely, otherwise we definitely would have came late for our flight with those perfect waves..). Unfortunately we didn’t scored a big day but we surfed perfect waves every day, for me it was one of the best trips of my life!

Thanks to Protest to make this all possible, and Marlon for giving us a lot of good advice during the surf’s!

I’ve seen some amazing things again during this trip which I will remeber for the rest of my life.
Now I’m gonna stay a couple of days at home in Belgium before leaving back to France.

Here I am with the 4th update from the Telo islands. The last 2days have been small but the guides from the resort always found us some fun and empty waves!
Yesterday Oli went a bit to stoked in to the end section of a shallow left and ended up on the reef, he’s not gonna surf any more here in the Telo’s… He was going to leave anyway tomorrow cause he is going to the boardmasters WQS in Newquay. He will be defenitely in it, his foot will be allright by than. We all told him to let Marlon stich his foot but he wasn’t really keen for it so he fixed it with some superglue ( we really wanted to see Marlon stiching it.. haha).

The swell is picking up tomorrow and we will have some big waves the last two days!

Yeaaaaaah

Hi there!

Life is so good here! We are scoring perfect waves and surfing by ourselfs every day. Yesterday we scored some really fun waves again at the same right we surfed the first day, we also surfed another fun left. Today we went to a left an hour boatdrive from the resort the most beautifull setup i’ve ever seen and there were really fun waves, and again..No one else out. First we surfed a fun left which was good to make some turns, but 300m more south there was a hollow left that was bigger. After having some luch me and Olli paddeld over to that left and it was amaizing, we both had some really sick barrels, Olli got stucked in a cave after a wipeout which was pretty scary! I defently scored my best barrels of the trip so far! After 40min Sarah and Marlon joined us, how good is that..surfing perfect waves with 4people out!? The other guys were ripping the left we all surfed in the morning. Than the tide started coming in and it got a bit more inconcistent but every now and than there were still really good ones coming in!
I’m so stoked right now after the first 3days. It looks like the next couple of days it will get a bit smaller but there is a fresh swell on the way for the end of the trip!!!!

Thats it for today!

Cheers,

Lars

Yeeew!

Life is good here in Algarve! For the first time in 5years coming here for the contest I’m scoring perfect waves! So stoked, and the best thing is that its so uncrowded here. we surf every day by ourselfs, I dont know many places in Europe were you can do that in summertime!

So the last couple of days we’ve been surfing so much, and surfing every day with Marlon, Yannick, Rowan, Melvin, Freddie… Is so good to push your surfing. I keep my eyes open on every wave I see the guys take to look what they do and what I need to do better. The contest starts tomorrow so last couple of days has been a really good training for me! If any of you is planning to bet online on the contest like on Unibet or whatever and you still dont really know on who to put your money I should say go for Marlon, he is surfing so good :-)!!

I really hope to do better in this comp than I did in in the Vendee but I will just try to have fun, and make sure I’m surfing good instead of thinking what the other guys are doing. I really have to change many things cause everything I did before in heats didn’t really worked out.. So I will try my best to surf good tomorrow!
Wish me luck and stay tuned for more!

France

June 30, 2010, 8:36am

Hi,

Here I am again, I’ve just spend a week in France. I stayed in Moliets at surfandbeachcamps and had some really fun waves right in front of the camp every day!
I surfed mostly in Moliets as there were some fun sandbars without crowds. The one and only session we filmed, was definitely the worst session of the week..(Why do we always film when waves are shit??) It were the best closeouts I surfed in a while.

Yesterday afternoon I left Moliets and started the trip to Portugal. We made a stop in Salamanca for the night and that’s were I am at this moment. After watching Spain-Portugal (Stoked Spain won it!!) yesterdaynight I’m ready to drive down to the South of Portugal today and start training for the QS there which starts the 8th of July.

Stay tuned for more updates soon!

Bye!
